A. Kent Merrell
In the mid-1980s, following the reception of his first of twenty-seven international awards for creative and impactful advertising, Kent’s desire to be part of the advertising action in New York’s famed advertising mecca, Madison Avenue, led him to one of the advertising world’s legends who simply said, “Stay in Utah, we don’t want you here competing with us, and you don’t want to raise your family in New York. You’re good enough, the work will come to you.”
Better counsel was never given.
In Kent’s forty-four-year career in marketing and advertising, Kent’s creativity attracted clients from around the world, clients like VISA International, Disney, HBO, USPS, Comcast, Wells Fargo, Discover Card, and Buena Vista. He’s been requested to speak on his versions of creativity in Europe, and across the US.
Kent’s projects and assignments took him around the globe. On those adventuresome business trips, creative juices began flowing into the pages of potential books. Histories of far-off lands begged to be told in Kent’s vintage creative style.
The Blade of Safavid, Kent’s first historical fiction, takes readers through Ancient England, Persia, India, Africa, and the new lands of the Americas. His second historical adventure focuses on the world’s conquest for liberty with a journey through the reformation in Europe and the discovery and conquests in the new world, culminating in the fall of the Inca Empire, and its eventual liberation. Kent’s travels to these countries and his experience living two years in the tops of the Andes mountains help him bring these histories to life.
The brief history of his own life includes scholarshipping into Brigham Young University where he earned his bachelor’s degree, married his wife of 45 years, and began a small family that now spans five children and twenty-two grandchildren.
